While there is no cure for lingering viral infections such as HIV and herpes, a recent study at Princeton University suggests it may be possible to deactivate such viruses indefinitely with the flick of a genetic switch.
Princeton scientists Leor Weinberger and Thomas Shenk hope their work will illuminate the processes by which human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and other viruses transition into dormant phases in their hosts. The researchers have discovered a specific genetic trigger read more »
Editor's note: Who needs global jihad when the toll from global hunger and poverty is so extraordinary? Isn't it time for warring Christian, Islamic, and Jewish factions around the globe to put down the missiles, throw away the guns, look at your neighbor in the eyes, and offer him or her a morsel of food and a clean glass of water?
The following statements about hunger, while suspect because they come from the UN, are more believable than the UNAIDS numbers, if for no other reason than the fact that so many of the latter figures are actually cases of malnutrition and severe poverty, not AIDS, and certainly not HIV, which couldn't even cause the common cold.
GLOBAL HUNGER
- Hunger & malnutrition are the number one risk to global health killing more people than AIDS, malaria & TB combined
Source: WHO-World Health Report 2002 - WHO 2003
- Hunger and poverty claim 25,000 lives every day
Source: FAO
- 852 million people do not have enough to eat - more than the populations of USA, Canada and the European Union

- 815 million people in developing countries alone are hungry - one in three lives in sub-Saharan Africa

Abnormal laboratory tests indicate Viramune can seriously damage the liver, cause moderate to severe rashes, and can induce life-threatening conditions like Stevens-Johnson syndrome, the sloughing off of the skin, nails, and mucus membranes.
Among the adverse events observed include increased liver enzymes (hepatitis) such as alanine aminotransferase {ALT or SGPT}, aspartate aminotransferase {AST or SGOT}, gamma glutamyl transpeptidase {GGT} and increased bilirubin (bile pigments, {BILI}.
Increases in liver enzymes may occur more frequently among those with hepatitis B or C virus infection. read more »

Editor's note: It is astounding that after 25 years of playing in the AIDS sandbox, another study is being done which excludes those who reject antiretrovirals. The NIH is considering a study whose aim it is to change official U.S. recommendations to starting antiretroviral therapy when t-cell counts go below 350 rather than 200, despite mounting concern over the oftentimes debilitating side effects of these drugs.
According to CBS news, "approximately 1 in 4 people with HIV in the U.S. do not know they are infected." The CDC estimates that "252,000--312,000 HIV-infected persons in the United States are unaware of their HIV infection." If this is true, than an equal number are untreated, and a logical deduction would be that a good number of these people are healthy, or they would have sought medical help. read more »

I don't really know how to start with this. So I will just write what is on my mind, I was diagnosed HIV positive in 1999, and I was immediately put on meds.
My doctor at the time first put me on Sustiva which made me have wacky dreams and then my dreams started to come to life, which I thought later must be impossible. I did crazy things like almost taking a knife to myself. read more »

Editor's note: In this interview with Celia Farber by Joanne McNeil, it is common sense that shines a light on the darkness of the AIDS curse. Celia Farber is my idol. In a world where expensive pharmaceuticals take precedence over clean drinking water and adequate nutrition, Ms Farber is a beacon of hope to those of us who refuse to lay down and die with a belly full of pills. Eat well, and prosper!
"Nutritional answers excite me very much especially in Africa, where the idea drives most people insane. How can we have a world where the left is opposed to clean water, core nutrition and basic health care to poverty-stricken Africans? It just boggled my mind. If anything, it’s a traditionally left-wing position that people poor, marginalized, and starving are going to get sick -- as they always have."
"...if you are exposed to extreme toxic assaults on your body, you will cease to absorb nutrients properly. If we are absorbing nutrients properly, then our bodies are designed to fight infections and to live."
